7th year of Pink Ribbon Day took place in the cinema
This year's event was enriched by a presentation by doctors at the Vatra cinema, in addition to regular breast cancer prevention education.
First, MUDr. Pavla Opělová from the Agel Diagnostic Center Nový Jičín, workplace Vsetín, introduced a mammographic screening program to the participants. The aim of the program is to find breast cancer at its early stage and as small as possible, ie at a time when it is not yet possible to detect it during routine self-examination. The doctor described how the mammography screening works. She also explained when the examination is performed with ultrasound and when using the mammography. She stressed that due to the increasing incidence of cancer a regular mammography examination is recommended to women from the age of 40! On the contrary, ultrasound examination is suitable for younger women up to the age of 40, who still have a large proportion of glands.
The doctor was followed by a surgeon from the Vsetín Hospital, MUDr. Petr Rohlík, who interspersed his explanation, focused on treatment strategies in individual developmental stages of breast cancer, with interesting photographs from his practice. The doctor also mentioned the risk factors for breast cancer, both proven and debatable. He acquainted participants with the most common breast tumor sites and, last but not least, with methods of surgical procedures, including types of breast surgery (from palliative to reconstructive surgery).
The third presenter was Mrs. Marie Novosadová, chairwoman of the basic organization ONKO-DUHA Vsetín. The organization associates patients with oncological diseases and diseases of civilization. With her engaging narration, she acquainted the listeners with the activities of this association, which members are mainly from Vsetín and surroundings. The association offers its members not only healing but also fun programs. Cancer prevention programs are also an indispensable activity of the association. This activity is followed by Pink Ribbon Day, which takes place every year on October 15, which is the worldwide day for the fight against breast cancer.
At the same time, the presentation of the partners of the Pink Ribbon Day took place in the cinema foyer, including a presentation of postoperative compression bras and gel from Dahlhausen CZ, spol. s r.o. intended for treatment after irradiation and after surgery.
The Vsetín Hospital provided, among other things, unusual lighting of the polyclinic building.
The students of the secondary medical school in Vsetín also deserve to be mentioned. They assisted the traditionally great members of ZO ONKO-DUHA VSETÍN with models for self-examination and also helped with the distribution of leaflets with instructions for self-examination.
