Nation memory – Stories of our neighbors

Announcement Ceremony for the “Stories of Our Neighbors” Project

The aim of the project is to enhance the familiarity of the public, and especially pupils of primary schools, with the recent history. Pupils involved in the project are to prepare video or audio recordings presenting memories of those who have witnessed historical milestones.

The project was undertaken in Vsetin for the first time this year. The final presentations took place at the Vsetin Chateau on 16 June 2020. In total, 5 teams consisting of pupils in grades 7 – 9 from Vsetin primary schools (Luh, Travniky, Sychrov, Rokytnice, Ohrada) and 5 seniors participated in the project. Pupils asked the seniors to talk about life experiences. One such story came from Mrs. Blanka Andělová, who recounted memories of her father and his activities in the resistance movement. Another was provided by Mrs. Eva Žárská as she talked about her childhood and her Jewish friend, Mr. Bohumil Zhof, who was imprisoned and tortured by STB members in 1948. Mrs. Věra Halová recalled the occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1968, and Mr. Petr Zezulka explained how music bands functioned during the previous regime.

We, as the main sponsor of the event, joined the in final presentations and ceremonial announcements as well.
